Jade Bangle Sizing Guide
Finding your perfect fit — a timeless piece deserves a perfect home on your wrist.
Why Sizing Matters
Unlike bracelets with clasps, jade bangles are solid rings — they must pass over your hand to reach your wrist. This means the fit is determined not by your wrist circumference alone, but by the widest part of your hand. A bangle that fits beautifully should slide on with a little effort and rest comfortably without slipping off.
Step 1 — Measure Your Hand
The key measurement for bangle sizing is the circumference of your hand at its widest point, not your wrist. Follow these steps carefully:
- Hold your dominant hand out flat, fingers together and thumb tucked in toward your palm (as if you were about to slip on a bangle).
- Wrap a soft measuring tape (or a strip of paper) around the widest part of your hand — typically just below the knuckles, excluding the thumb.
- Note the measurement in millimeters (mm). If using a paper strip, mark the overlap point and measure it against a ruler.
- Add 10–15 mm to your measurement to determine your ideal bangle inner diameter (ID). This accounts for comfortable passage over the hand.
Step 2 — Understand Bangle Inner Diameter (ID)
Jade bangles are sized by their inner diameter (ID) — the measurement across the inside opening of the bangle in millimeters. This is the number you will see listed on each of our product pages.
| Hand Circumference | Recommended Bangle ID | General Fit |
|---|---|---|
| 140–150 mm (5.5–5.9 in) | 50–52 mm | XS / Petite |
| 150–160 mm (5.9–6.3 in) | 52–54 mm | Small |
| 160–170 mm (6.3–6.7 in) | 54–56 mm | Small–Medium |
| 170–180 mm (6.7–7.1 in) | 56–58 mm | Medium |
| 180–190 mm (7.1–7.5 in) | 58–60 mm | Medium–Large |
| 190–200 mm (7.5–7.9 in) | 60–62 mm | Large |
| 200 mm+ (7.9 in+) | 62 mm+ | XL |
Step 3 — Choose Your Fit Style
Personal preference plays a role in how a bangle feels on the wrist. Here are the three most common fit styles:
Snug Fit
Sits close to the wrist with minimal movement. Requires effort to put on and take off. Preferred for active wear or smaller wrists.
Standard Fit
Slides on with moderate effort and rests comfortably. Moves slightly on the wrist. The most popular everyday fit.
Loose Fit
Slides on easily and moves freely. Preferred for layering or those who dislike restriction. Ensure it cannot slip over the hand unintentionally.
Round vs. Oval Bangles
Jade bangles come in two primary shapes, and the shape affects both fit and comfort:
- Round Bangles — A perfectly circular opening. Sized purely by inner diameter. Best for rounder wrists.
- Oval Bangles — An elliptical opening that is slightly wider than it is tall. Often more comfortable for wrists that are naturally oval-shaped, as they sit more naturally and move less. Oval bangles are listed with both their width and height measurements.
How to Put On a Jade Bangle
Putting on a jade bangle for the first time can feel daunting — but with the right technique, it is straightforward:
- Apply a small amount of lotion or soap to your hand to reduce friction.
- Hold the bangle at an angle and work it over your thumb and the base of your thumb first.
- Rotate the bangle gently as you ease it over the widest part of your hand (the knuckles).
- Once past the knuckles, the bangle will slide easily to your wrist.
Never force a bangle — jade is a durable stone, but sudden impact or excessive pressure can cause fractures. If significant force is required, the bangle is likely too small.
